Yes, I can use Aqua Cremains for your Cremation Jewelry

Hi, I am so sorry for your loss.  I'd be honored to create a beautiful memorial for your loved one (person or pet).   I can use cremains that are from traditional flame cremation  and also cremains from aqua cremation.   Here's a little more info about what is involved with using aqua cremains.

What are Aqua Cremains?

Aqua cremains are the remains produced through aquamation, also known as alkaline hydrolysis. This process uses water, heat, and alkali to gently return the body to its natural elements. The result is a fine, white powder that differs in texture and color from traditional flame cremation ashes.

In the photo below, the aqua cremains appear white and powdery, with a soft, almost chalk-like consistency. This is their natural state before any preparation for jewelry work begins.

Preparing Aqua Cremains for Precious Metal Forging

Before incorporating aqua cremains into silver and gold cremation jewelry, it’s essential to remove any residual moisture. This step ensures the cremains and silver or gold can safely withstand the high temperatures used in forging and fusing metals.

To do this, I heat the cremains. This process releases trapped moisture and stabilizes the material. After firing, the cremains take on a darker color, shifting from bright white to a more muted gray tone as shown in the photo below.

The color will change

The side-by-side comparison in the photos shows the transformation.:

  • Before firing is visible in the bottom right corner of the bag: White, powdery, and soft in texture.

  • After firing: Darker, denser, and ready for use in metalwork.

This color change is completely normal and expected. It does not alter the composition or identity of the cremains—it simply reflects the removal of moisture and the effects of heat exposure.

Be assured the returned ashes are yours.

When receiving cremation jewelry, families may notice that any unused cremains returned to them look different from what was originally sent. This difference in color or texture is a natural result of the preparation process. Rest assured, the cremains used in the jewelry are the same ones provided, simply transformed through careful heating to make them compatible with the forging process.
